Q. How are they installed?
A. The process is similar to tongue and groove floor boards except the fasteners have a back to back tongue while the boards require a back to back groove created on site with a biscuit cutter.

Q. What size groove do I need?
A. The groove is 12 mm deep X 4mm high starting 6.5mm up from the bottom of the deck board. Some timber suppliers offer pre grooved decking so don't forget to ask.

Q. How long will the fasteners last?
A. The Fasteners are made from UV stabilized Polypropylene and will last for over 100 years. The fasteners carry a 25 Year Limited Warranty.

Q. What are the screws made from?
A. The screws are made from case hardened steel and are coated in a product called Ruspert. Ruspert coating is a 3 layer baked ceramic coating. Archideck Screws exceed AS/3566 for class 3 coatings. The screws are guaranteed to meet AS/3566 for class 3 coatings.

Q. What size are the gaps?
A. The AD006 provides a 6mm gap between deck boards.

    The AD003 provides a 3mm gap between deck boards.

Q. Why can't the AD003 be used on steel joists?
A. The AD003 provides a 3mm gap between deck boards which requires the screw to be driven in on a 45 degree angle. This makes it difficult to pre drill and drive into steel joists.

Q. Why is the AD003 not recommended for board widths above 90mm?
A. Kiln dried timber decking can expand after installation due to moisture in the air or being exposed to rain. Wide deck boards have a greater expansion rate and, although the AD003 has a compressive keel, it cannot allow for the greater expansion of wider boards. The AD006 can handle a greater amount of expansion and therefore is a suitable choice for board widths above 90mm. See chart below for further information.

Q. What tools do I need?
A. Typical carpentry tools are required to build any deck project. When installing Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners you will also need a biscuit cutter/ joiner with a 4mm cutting blade, cordless drill and a caulking gun.

Q. How long does it take to install?
A. It will take around the same time if you were to pre drill and screw down your decking.

Q. What type of decking should I use?
A. Your choice of decking is very important. Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners are designed for kiln dried hardwood decking and solid composite decking. Be sure to check with the deck board manufacturer for the suitability of Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners.

Q. Can I use a joist protector or malthoid to protect my floor joists?
A. No. Archideck recommends the use of construction adhesive between the deck board and the floor joist. Construction adhesive won't adhere to the floor joists if a joist protector or malthoid is used. However Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners do provide some protection to joists due to their design.

Q. Can I use Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners for my base boards?
A. Yes. Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners are also suitable for screening and gates. The same installation instructions and recommendations apply for these applications.

A. The amount for Archideck Hidden Deck Fasteners required will depend on the size of your decking boards, floor joists spacing and the size of your deck. Please use the chart below to calculate how many fasteners you will need per square meter.

Example: - 6 metre X 4 metre deck = 24 square metre deck.
- 90mm wide deck boards with 450mm joist spacings = 25 fasteners per square metre.
- 24 square metres of deck X 25 fasteners = 600 fasteners.
